Support Local Artists in the Freedman Arts District on Artist Sunday, November 26th

Mark your calendars, local art enthusiasts! The Freedman Arts District is thrilled to announce its participation in Artist Sunday on November 26, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This nationwide art-shopping event, nestled between Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday, is a fantastic opportunity to support local artists and galleries while finding unique holiday gifts.

Artist Sunday began in 2020 and has quickly grown into a nationwide phenomenon, with hundreds of communities and thousands of artists participating. This year, Beaufort artists will join the celebration for the first time, thanks to the collaborative efforts of the Freedman Arts District, Beaufort Area Hospitality Association, and Beaufort Cultural District.

The day’s festivities will include open houses at private art studios, live music on Bay Street, interactive photo-op boards, and even a special appearance by Santa Claus! Plus, don’t miss the announcement of the Bike Rack Design Competition winner at 2 p.m. at USCB’s Visual Art & Design building.

Many of Beaufort’s downtown art galleries will be open for business, including Green Herring Art & Framing, Beaufort Artist Association, Rhett Gallery, Melissa Lyons Art Studio, Pinkney Simon Gallery, Beaufort River Glass, and Atelier off Bay. You can also find art supplies and local artists’ work at Coastal Art Supply on West Street.

Street musicians Edward & Ryan and Ashley Holland will perform by the Clock tower near Duffy’s stairs. And be sure to check out the photo-op boards by Lulu Burgess, Thibault Gallery, and Scout.

In the residential district, several artists will be opening their studios for visitors. Stop by the homes of Martha Spears, Hanna Hauser, Nina Snyder, Amy Minson, Julie Roberts, Abraham Brown, Kathy Uzzle, Julie Neumann, Marc Sviland, and Billy Wilkie to see where the magic happens.

Finally, make your way uptown to the USCB Visual Art & Design campus at 1121 Harrington Street.
